The President of The Association of Foreign Airlines and Representatives in Nigeria or AFARN, Kingsley Nwokoma, advised the Federal Government the concession of four international airports in the country remain transparent.
Nwokoma explained at a press briefing in Lagos on Thursday that the international community and investors were also watching, as they were supportive of the concession yet concerned about the process.
“The world is watching the process and AFARN calls upon the minister to live up to the above promise he made at the outset of this process,” said Nwokoma.
Nwokoma also reminded the Federal Government to be more careful, as to avoid hurting an industry that is a source of income for thousands of Nigerians. He recalled the liquidation of defunct Nigeria Airways which was allegedly done in a rush should be a lesson for everyone involved in the project.
Apart from Nwokoma, Mr Femi Falana (SAN) law firm also raised concerns of possible law battles that might entail should the process is not done accordingly.
Currently, the Federal Government is overseeing the concession of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Mallam Aminu Kanu International Airport in Kano, and the PortHarcourt International Airport in Rivers.
All process is done through the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission and the Ministry of Aviation.
