Liverpool star Mohamed Salah bailed out Egypt with an injury-time penalty to help the Pharaohs from defeat against Mozambique in their AFCON Group B debut.
The Pharaohs looked set for a comfortable start when Mostafa Mohamed headed home inside the first minute, but the Mambas went back into the game in the second half.
Witi equalised with a stunning strike just after the break, and Clesio put Mozambique ahead with a composed finish midway through the half.
However, just before full-time, Domingos Macandza recklessly clattered into Mohamed in the box, and the referee, prompted by the Video Assistant Referee, pointed to the spot. The penalty was eventually scored by Salah, Egypt’s talisman and captain.
At the final whistle, the game ended 2-2.
