Yuba Abdullahi, the Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University, Malete, tragically passed away on Wednesday night while watching the semi-finals between Nigeria and South Africa in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to sources close to the deceased, Abdullahi was at a sports centre in the Sango area, watching the match when he began to feel uneasy.
He watched the Nigeria/South Africa match until the end of extra time and during the penalty shootout.
Subsequently, he complained of feeling dizzy and returned home to rest, unaware that his blood pressure had risen significantly.
Upon reaching home, Abdullahi collapsed and was rushed to a private hospital in Sango. However, he was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where, unfortunately, he passed away before receiving medical attention.
The Deputy Bursar was buried on Thursday morning in accordance with Islamic rites at the Hausa Muslim cemetery in Apata Yakuba, Oyun area, Ilorin.
Kwara State University issued a statement announcing the death of Abdullahi, expressing condolences and stating that the Janazah (funeral prayer) took place in the morning, followed by the interment at the designated cemetery.
