Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been given the green light to join the Super Eagles squad for the highly anticipated semifinal clash against South Africa.
However, uncertainties loom over his inclusion in the starting lineup for the crucial match.
Osimhen, who was initially left behind due to stomach discomfort, has been conditionally cleared to travel with the squad, according to the Director of Communications at the Nigeria Football Federation, Ademola Olajire.
“He was only cleared to travel as the abdominal pain has come down a bit.
“But he has not been cleared to play. The medical team will continue to monitor him when he gets here, and they will make the final decision whether he plays or not after he is examined later tonight,” Olajire told ESPN.
Despite the clearance to join the team, Osimhen is yet to receive the go-ahead to play, and his final status will be determined after further examination by the medical team.
The nature of Osimhen’s abdominal discomfort remains undisclosed, maintaining a level of mystery around the star striker’s fitness.
Osimhen has played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s AFCON campaign, contributing to four of the team’s six goals, including a crucial goal in the opening match against Equatorial Guinea.
While Osimhen’s availability for the semifinal remains uncertain, Coach Jose Peseiro has other quality options, including Kelechi Iheanacho, Terem Moffi, and Paul Onuachu.
The match against South Africa promises to be a highly competitive encounter, with both teams vying for a spot in the AFCON final.
