The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has urged political stakeholders to solidify their support for the embattled president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adeshina.
This newspaper reports that Mr Adesina is currently facing a corruption scandal and the U. S. government is calling for an investigation.
But in a statement on Wednesday by his media aide, Alli Ibraheem, the monarch appealed to President Muhammed Buhari, former presidents of Africa countries mostly Nigeria, political leaders and business tycoons of international influence to solidify their support for Mr Adesiina in safeguarding the sanctity and potential of the bank.
He described the happening as racial politicking. Hence, he “asked former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Yaqub Gowon, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, ruling APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other Nigerians of international recognition to surge the world with votes of confidence in the progressive governance of the AfDB birthed by Adesina.
“The bank has never had it so good like this under Adesina. An industrious manager like him should be rewarded with more work through reelection. He should only exit the bank at his wish and not forcing him out. No progressive soul will jump on the bandwagon to blackmail an honest asset.
“No allegation could hold water to discredit the hard-earned integrity of Adesina we have known for years as a transparent, honest, accountable, upright, and straight forward man.”
The monarch pointed AfDB boss stands for the best of the continent, urging opinion leaders to support his reelection bid.
He said: “I’m sure those staging his back out are ignorance of him. He is an asset to humanity who serves without compromise, very accountant, transparent, diligent, and industrious. A seasoned manager of international repute and accolades. He has been praised abroad and honored at home. He is an asset. We can’t allow anyone to rubbish his name for a self-serving purpose. He serves with fear of God and never betray trusts”
