Forty-eight years after the Federal Capital Territory was created, the FCT administration has announced plans to review the Abuja Master Plan.

Nyesom Wike, the minister of the FCT while playing host to Japan’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Matsunaga Kazuyoshi said his administration has begun moves to review the original plan.

Speaking on the review plan, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Shehu Ahmad, said the project is aimed at looking at challenges around water drainage system, mobility around the urban areas, de-congesting traffic in the city and ensuring the implementation of a smart city initiative.

In his address, the ambassador of Japan to Nigeria who led a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) discussed plans for starting work on the upgrading of the Abuja Integrated Urban Development Master Plan.

The team also sought Wike’s support for major projects initiated by JICA in the FCT.

To this, Wike assured the team of his support and that of the FCTA and key departments of the Satellite Towns Development and Land Administration needed for the review process.
