Tony Elumelu, the chairperson of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), has reacted to a report that he is being considered for appointment as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Reacting to the viral online claim on Friday, September 1, Elumelu, via Twitter, described it as “false news.”
The Nigerian businessman said: “LOL. No, please. This is false news!”
The unconfirmed report was shared on social media by an All Progressives Congress (APC) member, Imran Muhammad.
Muhammad, who quoted another source, tweeted: “According to a Source President Tinubu is also considering Tony O. Elumelu as CBN Governor.
Recently, Elumelu paid President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in State House, Abuja, and hailed him on his economic reforms that will help the private sector.
Speaking with State House journalists after meeting with the president on Tuesday, Elumelu lauded Tinubu for his policy initiatives since taking office.
Elumemlu expressed optimism that Nigerians will reap the benefits of the reforms in due course.
He was quoted to have said: “The private sector is encouraged by the bold decisions President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken and we hope that in the fullness of time, Nigerians will benefit from it because it is all about the Nigerian people.”
