After Scuffle With Passenger, NCAA, Kenya Airways Tenders Apology

Days after a brawl with a United Kingdom-bound, Gloria Omisore, Kenya Airways has apologised over the maltreatment of the passenger and issuance of a misleading statement on the incident.

The apology by the airline is a sequel to a meeting between its officials and the management of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in Abuja on Tuesday, February 4.

Michael Achimugu, the director of consumer protection and public affairs at the NCAA in a post on X said the team apologised for the treatment meted out to the passenger.

Achimugu posted, “Their team (Kenya Airways)has apologised for the obfuscation of facts in their earlier statement.

“They also admitted that, phone call or not, it was the airline’s fault for failing to identify the issue before airlifting the passenger from Lagos,” Achimugu stated.

Recall that Omisore has encountered some challenges with the airline after she was airlifted from Lagos to Manchester via Nairobi and Paris.

Even though the passenger had flown into the country trouble-free with the airline as a British resident permit holder, the airline allegedly abandoned her without any form of care or assistance in Nairaobi for lack of a Shenghen visa after it had assured Omisore that not having one would not be a problem.

A viral video circulated online also showed a moment of altercation between the airline officials and the passenger while in Nairobi en route to manch.

This led to an intervention by the NCAA’s Achimugu who issued an ultimatum to the airline management.

Achimugu also directed that the airline refund and compensate Omisore for the “avoidable humiliation and distress” she endured, which also threatened her job security.
