AGF Malami speaks on his ‘Involvement’ in Emir Sanusi’s Dethronement

The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami has said that he has no involvement in the removal of the Former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that Sanusi was dethroned last Monday by the Kano state government amidst much controversy. He was taken away to a village called Awe in Nassarawa state by armed police and DSS personnel.

He was to be detained in a small apartment there but after filing a lawsuit against the Inspector General of Police and the Director-General of DSS, a federal high court in Abuja ordered for his immediate release.

However, an aide to the deposed Emir accused the AGF of having a hand in Sanusi’s detention.

In a swift reaction contained in a statement signed by one Umar Gwandu, Malami’s special assistant on media, the AGF says he will not comment on the matter as it is already in court.

“The issue of who does what over the dethronement saga has been effectively submitted for judicial determination. The matter is consequently subjudice,”.

”And I will not comment one way or the other over a matter that is pending before the court.”

Sanusi, on the other hand, has since reacted to his removal saying that it was the ‘will of God’, adding that he won’t be fighting to get back the throne as he had already accomplished his goals within his 6-year reign.

He adds that the who dethronement process was done ‘very badly’, claiming he could reclaim the throne if he wanted to but that it was time to move on to other phases of life.
