Airtel Nigeria CEO Surendran Chemmenkotil announced Wednesday that Airtel Nigeria has designed plans to feed 5,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) across five states in the country.
Mr Chemmenkotil said that the initiative, named “5 Days of Love”, aims to distribute food and 1,000 palliative packs to five IDP camps in five states across Nigeria for five days. The campaign was set to start on Monday in Ugha IDP Camp of Benue State.
The next stop, Mr Chemmenkotil said, would be in Kasaisa IDP Camp in Damaturu, Yobe on the next day while on Wednesday, the company would visit the IDP camp in Ekiti.
“On Thursday 16th December, the programme will hold in Anka, Zamfara,” he continued. Lastly, “the distribution will be concluded at the IDP Camp in Ekende, Ogoja, Cross Rivers on Friday, 17th December”.
Mr Chemmenkotil called on other corporate organisations to follow suit, adding that 2021 had been an interesting year.
“I am sure many are wondering why Airtel continues to invest in critical programmes in spite of the huge sums we have committed to supporting some other programmes,” he said. “As a company, we believe that to be great, one must first be good.
“Airtel will not rest on its laurels, we believe that as a key stakeholder in Nigeria, one ought to continue pursuing programmes that will empower and touch the lives of more Nigerians.”
The Airtel CEO claimed that the campaign was launched to help the “underprivileged and underserved persons” in the wake of Yuletide.
