Nnamdi Kanu sends fresh message to IPOB members

Nnamdi Kanu, detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has told his followers to “remain upbeat” about his freedom and the quest for a sovereign nation of Biafra.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Kanu’s IPOB is pressing for the secession of the Igbo ethnic group’s homeland, which covers part of southeast Nigeria. The Nigerian authorities view IPOB as a terrorist group.

Kanu previously pleaded not guilty to seven charges including terrorism, calling for secession and knowingly broadcasting falsehoods about President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Department of State Services (DSS) produced him in court in Abuja on June 29, 2021, and several times after that time, after detaining him in an undisclosed country. His lawyers alleged he was detained and mistreated in Kenya, though Kenya has denied involvement.

Kanu has filed charges alleging that he was illegally taken from Kenya and asking that he be repatriated to the United Kingdom.

“We just concluded a visitation with Onyendu Nnamdi Kanu. Today’s visitation is very important because of the previously aborted visitations. We had very fruitful interactions and mutually debriefed on all issues. He greets his followers and urged all to remain upbeat,” Aloy Ejimakor, one of Kanu’s lawyers said on his known Twitter handle on Thursday evening.
