“Amaechi’s 2027 presidential promises as unrealistic” – APC chieftain

Former spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu’s Southeast campaign, Josef Onoh, has criticised former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi over his recent political promises, describing them as “unrealistic” and “intellectually bankrupt.”

Reacting to Amaechi’s remarks on the Weekend Politics X Space programme, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain questioned the feasibility of the ex-minister’s pledge to change Nigeria’s constitution from “indigeneship to citizenship” and his vow to end corruption within one month if elected president.

Onoh said the proposed constitutional change ignored Nigeria’s federal structure and the rigorous amendment process outlined in Section 9 of the 1999 Constitution.

He also called the one-month anti-corruption target “an insult to Nigerians,” citing the entrenched nature of corruption and the complexity of reform.

The former campaign spokesman referenced unresolved indigene-settler conflicts during Amaechi’s tenure as Rivers State governor, controversies at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and cost overruns in railway projects under his ministerial watch.

Onoh further criticised Amaechi’s attacks on Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and his allegations of corruption at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), urging him to provide evidence.

He defended the Tinubu administration’s economic and electoral reforms, including subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, and biometric improvements to election processes, arguing they already address issues Amaechi claims he would fix.

“Your vows are a cocktail of desperation and delusion,” Onoh said, urging voters ahead of the 2027 elections to prioritise leaders with realistic policies and proven track records.
