Professor Mohammed Mele is now the new substantive vice chancellor of the University of Maiduguri.
Mele’s appointment was approved by the governing council of the institution on Wednesday, September 18.
A statement issued by the registrar of UNIMAID, Ahmed Lawan said Mele’s appointment as the substantive VC of the varsity comes shortly after a recommendation by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board during a special meeting held on September 18.
He stated that out of four applicants interviewed for the position, Mele was chosen and recommended by the board.
Continuing, Lawan said in the statement, “The appointment takes effect from Wednesday, 18th September, 2024.
“Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele is a distinguished scholar of English Language and Linguistics with over two decades of dedicated service in teaching,” he said.
Melee, a former acting VC of UNIMAID has held numerous positions – both academic and administrative at the institution.
He has also served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Central Administration).
He is a native of Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.
