The Senate Chief Whip and lawmaker representing Abia North district, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has appealed to his constituents that he would not be with them to celebrate Christmas 2022.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that it is the first time in three decades (except the period of his incarceration) that the former Abia State governor will celebrate Christmas outside his state of origin.
This newspaper reports that lately, security breaches and violent crimes have been recorded around Umunneochi and Ohafia Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Abia State.
But Kalu said he would not be travelling home due to the fact that the 2023 budget is yet to be passed.
“Our people in Abia State, this is the first Christmas I will be doing away in 30 years apart from the period when I was in Kuje prison, Abuja,” he said in a video posted on his verified Facebook page.
“The Senate just adjourned plenary till 28 of December, and it will not be nice coming and going back.
“I thank most people for understanding and I thank our communities.
“We will soon be up and be with you people. What is keeping us back is national assignment.
“Since I came to the Senate, every budget has been passed before the 25th. But this year, we couldn’t do it because of some misplacement by the executive arm of government and we are correcting it.
“And the budget will be passed by God’s grace next week.”
