Amotekun arrests six arsonists in Ondo, recovers police rifle, others

Six persons have been arrested in Ondo State by the State State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, for allegedly looting police stations under the guise of the #EndSARS protest.

The arrested persons were said to be caught with police cardigan, police boots, police rifle, and motorcycle amongst other items looted last week.

The state Commandant of Amoteku, Adetunji Adeleye, who confirmed the arrest on Monday said the suspects were apprehended in various parts of the state.

He also told journalists that the suspects upon interrogation confessed to participating in the crimes when hoodlums hijacked the #EndSARS protest in the state.

Before now, the governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu had announced that persons in possession of illegal arms and ammunition should return them.

He said: “All arms should be returned to the Commandant of Amotekun at the Pa Fasoranti’s Gardens, Alagbaka, Akure.”

It would be recalled that many police officers and many police stations were burnt in Ondo during the protests.
