2023 presidency: Wike speaks on stepping down for consensus candidate

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State and a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election has said he will not be stepping down for anybody.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that in an interview with BBC News Pidgin published on Friday, Wike stated that the PDP constitution talked about rotation, and not consensus.

“Why will I step down for anybody? If there would be consensus, it must be fair; there must be equity.

“In our constitution in the PDP, Section 7, sub-section 3C, laid emphasis on rotation,” Wike said.

Earlier, Wike asked the PDP to support his ambition to run for the office of the president in the 2023 general election.

He reminded the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) of his support for some of its members during the last national convention.

The PDP at the end of the sale/submission of its nomination forms on Wednesday garnered the sum of N646 million from Presidential nomination forms alone after seeing 16 male and one female aspirants obtain the forms.
