The convoy of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo state was attacked on Monday by some suspected hoodlums at new Owerri around Concord Hotel, Owerri, the state capital.
It was learned that the governor was attacked by fifteen people on his way to the 34 Attilary Brigade, Obinze, to inaugurate a Nigerian Army officers mess built by the state government. The armed hoodlums damaged some of the rear vehicles in the governor’s convoy.
According to reports, the hoodlums claimed to be staff members of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) protesting non-payment of salaries.
However, the state Police Command arrested the thugs and detained them at the state Police Headquarters in Owerri.
Speaking on the incident, the state government said its position that most of the protests in the state were sponsored by the opposition had been vindicated.
