Nigerian socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu on Tuesday asked the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to reconsider its stand to shut down the South-East.
Yesufu, co-founder of the #BringBackOurGirls movement said the so-called civil disobedience is not in the best interest of the citizens.
The Anambra State election is scheduled for November 6, 2021, while the controversial group has ordered a sit-at-home for one week from November 5.
But in a statement last Thursday by its Director of Media and Publicity who has the pseudonym, Emma Powerful, the secessionist group said its demand for the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was because the authorities allegedly planned to perpetually keep him in detention, “through frivolous court adjournments.”
Now, Yesufu on Tuesday enjoined IPOB to reconsider its plan to shut down the South-East as it will give the All Progressives Congress (APC-led) federal government or incumbent party the opportunity to ‘manipulate themselves back to power’.
“Boycotting election, voters apathy gives incumbent or the one with federal might the room to manipulate and bring themselves back to power. IPOB should remember that if one does not use one’s brain, others will use the brain for one!” she wrote on her verified Twitter handle.
