Anger in Ogun as newly rehabilitated road by state govt collapses after heavy rainfall

A road project recently completed in Makun Sagamu, located in the Sagamu local government area of Ogun State, has collapsed just two months after its opening.

The Ogun State Government’s rehabilitation project aimed to enhance the community’s infrastructure.

The road, known as Ojumele-Ajegunle Road, was featured in a short documentary published on various social media platforms by the state government four weeks ago.

In the documentary, residents expressed gratitude to the governor for the road rehabilitation, citing improved movement of vehicles and people within the community.

“As part of our commitment to ensuring quality infrastructure for our community, we are pleased to announce the successful completion of the Ojumele-Ajegunle Road rehabilitation project in Makun Sagamu,” the state government said in the documentary.

“The rehabilitation was undertaken with the aim of delivering well-maintained roads that will benefit our residents,” it added.

However, barely a month after the government’s announcement, the newly opened road had suffered significant damage following a downpour in the area.

Many residents shared photos online, suggesting that the road had collapsed, raising concerns about the quality of materials used in its construction.

One social media user, Rehanat, commented on the situation and expressed scepticism about the government’s efforts, stating, “He (the governor) obviously didn’t do anything. Let him do a good road and stop using hoodlums as an excuse. Use good material, as you say.”

Another user, Zubairu Abdullahi, echoed similar sentiments, saying> “The road was poorly constructed.”
