The Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NACAT) has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately sack and prosecute Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), over alleged abuse of office and “reckless” allocation of Abuja lands.
In a statement signed by Fejiro Oliver and Tega Samson, co-founders of the organisation, NACAT accused Wike of “primitive diversion and accumulation of public assets” through arbitrary land allocations to his family members and cronies.
The group said it was appalled by the president’s continued silence despite media reports, particularly by Peoples Gazette, which claimed the FCT minister had allocated plots to his children, father, siblings and other associates.
Part of the statement read: “The FCT minister has overstepped his boundaries, and as such, we call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sack him now with immediate effect.
“We are aghast and worried that the president has yet to call Mr Wike to order, either by suspending or abruptly sacking him.”
NACAT said no previous FCT minister had exhibited the level of “high-handedness and avarice” as Wike, listing all past ministers from 1976 to 2023.
The group questioned Wike’s seeming immunity from consequence, suggesting that “either Mr Wike has the nude pictures of the president or they share something sacred for him to have overlooked this brazen sharing of Abuja lands to self and family”.
The organisation also cited the case of Stella Oduah, former aviation minister, who was removed from office by President Goodluck Jonathan for purchasing vehicles worth less than ₦300 million, contrasting it with the alleged ₦300 billion land scandal linked to Wike.
“Failure to act, we will stage a continuous protest at the National Assembly and FCT ministry until Mr Wike is removed from office and prosecuted,” the group said.
