“Any threat against Peter Obi is a threat against all of us,” -  Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has responded to a recent threat by Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, against Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, stating that any threat to Obi is a threat to all.

Atiku made the remark in a tweet on Tuesday, following Governor Okpebholo’s claim that Obi must obtain security clearance before visiting Edo State.

The governor’s comment, made during the defection of federal lawmaker Marcus Onobun to the All Progressives Congress (APC), has drawn sharp criticism from opposition figures and concerned Nigerians.

Earlier in July, Peter Obi visited St. Philomena Hospital School of Nursing Sciences in Benin City, Edo State, where he donated ₦15 million towards the school’s development project.

However, Governor Okpebholo linked Obi’s visit to a spike in violence across the state, suggesting it raised security concerns.

“That man who claims he has no ‘shishi’ came and dropped ₦15 million. Where did he get it from? After he left, three people were killed. Because of this, Obi must not enter Edo without security clearance,” the governor stated, insisting that such visits would no longer be tolerated without prior notice.

Reacting to the issue via his verified Twitter account, Atiku tweeted:
“Let it be known that a threat against Peter Obi or any of us is a threat against ALL of us.”
