Anyim reveals why foreign investors are boycotting Nigeria

Anyim Pius Anyim, a former Senate President, has identified policy inconsistency as a major factor deterring investors from Nigeria.

Speaking on Thursday at the inaugural forum of the Secretaries to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and state governments (SSGs) in Abuja, Anyim emphasized the need for stability in government policies to attract investment.

“Policy inconsistency is the reason investors do not come into the country,” Anyim stated.

He urged the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to establish a repository for all government records and policies to ensure continuity across administrations.

“There should be a legal framework to define and protect these positions,” he added, stressing the need for improved policy coordination among government entities to enhance governance.

George Akume, the SGF, noted that the event was organized to address challenges at the sub-national level.

Akume commended President Bola Tinubu for making “bold” decisions aimed at revitalizing the economy.

“It is important to recall that since the beginning of this administration, Mr. President has introduced bold policies and reform initiatives aimed at revitalizing and repositioning our economy for the benefit of all Nigerians,” Akume said.
He acknowledged that these reforms come with challenges but emphasized the government’s commitment to nation-building.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), also spoke at the event, highlighting the importance of effective policy coordination.

“It is important to have effective policy coordination and implementation in achieving the nation’s developmental goals,” Wike said.
