Days after stepping down as Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello’s posters have emerged across Abuja, signaling his desire to become the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman.
Before now, associates of the former governor have hinted that he will make attempts to displace Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the leader of the ruling party.
Bello has been vocal about the need for the APC national chairman to be from the north-central region of the country.
Ganduje, a former deputy governor and governor of Kano State, is from the north-west region.
He replaced Abdullahi Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa state who is from the north-central.
Bello’s move is an attempt to bring back the chairmanship seat to the region, and it is believed he has the backing of several stakeholders in the north-centeal.
The former governor handed over power to Usman Ododo after eight years in the saddle as Kogi State chief executive.
Meanwhile, there are rumours that he would sign be invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to give account of his stewardship in the last eight years.
