Dr Garus Gololo, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged President Bola Tinubu to sack Mohammed Bello Koko, Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), and Ibrahim Jamoh, the Managing Director of NIMASA, over purported financial and administrative malpractices.
During a media briefing in Abuja, Gololo criticized the duo for alleged misconduct, urging the presidency to investigate and potentially remove them from their positions.
He emphasized that the tenure of Koko, who assumed the NPA’s acting leadership after Adisa Bala Usman’s departure, should be scrutinized through forensic auditing to uncover any hidden irregularities.
Highlighting concerns over previous instances of corruption, Gololo raised questions about the judiciary’s handling of Usman’s case, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in such crucial appointments.
Gololo pointed to what he described as an endemic issue in Nigerian governance, where individuals with a history of financial improprieties continue to hold influential positions.
He stressed the necessity of stringent investigations before any fresh appointments, calling for the involvement of anti-graft agencies to ensure the suitability of appointees.
He further criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for misplacement of priorities, focusing on low-level crimes while ignoring alleged high-scale financial misconduct within government offices.
Expressing concerns about the upcoming political landscape, Gololo warned against a lack of accountability, highlighting the need for transparency from former government officials regarding their tenure’s financial decisions.
He added:
“Nigerians are mostly the problems themselves. No one is ready to come out and speak like I am doing now. Everyone sits back to protect his religion or ethnic background. I am a Fulani man from Bauchi State, but that cannot make me to advocate for bad governance and anything that would aid corruption just because of covering up my brother of same ethnic background or religion.
“I want Mr. President to heed to this advice. He has listening ears, and that would save Nigeria a lot in future.”
