APC chieftain reacts as opposition accuse Tinubu administration of ‘weaponising poverty’

Former National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babatunde Ogala, has refuted claims that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has “weaponised poverty” in Nigeria, describing such assertions as out of touch with reality.

Ogala made these comments on Saturday at a dinner in Abuja hosted by Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora, marking the mid-term of the Tinubu-led government.

The event, themed “Two Years of Impact: Honoring Mr President and the Voices of Renewed Hope,” served as a platform to highlight the administration’s accomplishments.

According to Ogala, the achievements of the Tinubu government across critical sectors such as education, health, economy, and infrastructure are evident, underscoring what he described as a strategic and deliberate commitment to national development.

“The achievements in education, health, economy, and infrastructure are visible to all Nigerians,” Ogala said.

He also praised diaspora Nigerians for their continued support of the APC government, despite what he acknowledged as limited political appointments for members outside the country.

“We appreciate the Renewed Hope Diaspora for promoting the government, the party, and the country internationally,” he said.

Ogala reaffirmed that the administration remains focused on its reform agenda, adding that it is laying the groundwork for long-term, sustainable progress.

The dinner’s chief host, Ade Omole, former Director of the APC Diaspora Campaign Council, stated that the gathering was aimed at “truth-telling, not mere praise.”

“The Tinubu administration is not just counting years but weighing its impact. Progress has not only emerged but endured under this leadership,” Omole stated.

The dinner drew a wide range of attendees including APC leaders, government appointees, support group members, and state representatives.

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Aliyu Modibbo, who represented Vice President Kashim Shettima at the event, praised President Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to inclusive governance and the protection of all national interests.
