The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused security agencies under the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of committing atrocities against unarmed protesters amid the ongoing nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests.
In a statement issued on Saturday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba criticized President Bola Tinubu for failing to address the nation during the severe economic crisis that has sparked widespread demonstrations.
The protests, which began on Thursday and have continued across major cities such as Abuja, Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, and Rivers, are driven by public outrage over rising hunger and poor governance.
“The PDP demands that President Tinubu immediately address Nigerians on urgent steps to reduce the price of petroleum products, stem the fall of the Naira, and ensure the rapid provision of food, among other critical issues,” the statement read.
The party expressed concerns that Tinubu’s silence is perceived as a sign of insensitivity from the APC government toward the dire state of affairs in the country.
The PDP lamented over reports of violence by APC-controlled security agencies, accusing them of assaulting, shooting, and killing unarmed protesters.
The opposition party urged the international community to take note of these allegations and call for a thorough investigation.
“It is indeed worrisome that President Tinubu could remain silent as Nigerians are on the streets demanding good governance, protection, security, and welfare,” the PDP statement continued.
The party called for President Tinubu to break his silence, address the nation, and reassure citizens on critical issues like reducing petroleum prices, cutting tariffs on essential goods, and recovering stolen funds.
The PDP also demanded that President Tinubu address the reported killings of unarmed protesters and ensure that security agencies maintain professionalism in their duties.
“With transparent and innovative management of resources, petrol should not sell for more than N200 per litre,” the PDP insisted.
