APC Crisis deepens as court stops Oshiomhole faction from disrupting NEC meeting

A court ruling of Wednesday has restrained some All Progressive Congress members loyal to the suspended National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, from disrupting the meeting of the APC National Executive Committee, convened by the party’s National Working Committee.

POLITICS NIGERIA have reported the leadership crisis that has been rocking the ruling party lately. While a faction of the party wants Oshiomhole removed, another is against it.

Meanwhile, the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, Babatunde Ogala; the National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu; and Waziri Bulama have been accused of taking steps to jumble the meeting scheduled for March 17, an allegation that resulted in the court order.

The restraining order given by Justice S.U. Bature followed the ex parte application by one Mustapha Salihu.

The court also gave an order compelling the 4th defendant (APC) to give effect to the resolution of the National Working Committee convening the National Executive Committee meeting of the 4th defendant (APC) scheduled for 17th March 2020 or any subsequent date pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice already filed.”

The judge granted leave to the applicant to serve originating summons on Ogala, Issa-Onilu, Bulama and the APC “by substituted means, to wit: by serving same on any adult at the office of the Deputy National Secretary of the 4th defendant at the APC National Secretariat and deem same as proper service.”

However, Mr Issa-Onilu declined comments when POLITICS NIGERIA contacted him on Thursday.

“There is nothing to react to. There are no plans to disrupt any meeting,” He said before dropping the call.

Meanwhile, the deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, called for peace and President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention.

Nabena, who spoke in a telephone interview with our correspondent, said ” It is no longer news that there is a crisis in the party. Even the National Working Committee cannot solve it because everyone has a faction it belongs to. Lanre Issa-Onilu belongs to a faction too.”

“That is why I am calling on President Buhari and other major stakeholders to have a caucus meeting before the NEC meeting so that we can have a headway.”

The APC chieftain however added that “Hopefully, the crisis should be over by next week.’
