APC expands NEC session to include caucus members as party shops for Ganduje’s replacement

President Bola Tinubu will on Thursday lead other key figures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party.

Among those expected are Vice-President Kashim Shettima, former vice-president Yemi Osinbajo, governors, former governors, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The NEC is also expected to deliberate on the appointment of a substantive national chairman.

In a departure from tradition, Thursday’s NEC session will be expanded to accommodate members of the national caucus.

Party sources said the expansion became necessary following the decision to shelve the usual national caucus meeting, which typically holds a day before NEC, due to logistical reasons.

The APC constitution lists NEC members to include the national chairman, deputy national chairmen (north and south), national secretary, deputy national secretary, six zonal chairmen, national legal adviser, and other key national officers and deputies.

Others are the president, vice-president, senate president, deputy senate president, speaker and deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, state governors who are party members, principal officers of the national assembly, nominated senators and representatives, ex-officio members, and BoT executives.

The national caucus comprises past and present presidents and vice-presidents, former and serving national officers, national assembly leaders, state governors, presidential candidates, the secretary to the government of the federation, BoT leaders, and others appointed by NEC.
