The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has expelled 84 of its members who are loyalists of the former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the expulsion was announced by the Osun APC Chairman, Sooko Lawal, in a statement on Wednesday.
Lawal said the expulsion was based on allegations of anti-party activities and misconduct.
He said the party’s disciplinary committee had investigated the allegations and found them to be true.
The expelled members include former APC chairman in the state, Rasaq Salinsile, and former Commissioner for Political Affairs, Sola Fasure.
The statement reads: “Following complaints of anti-party activities, the State Executive Committee of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) constituted a disciplinary committee to investigate the allegations against some members.
“This disciplinary measure came in response to the allegations of misconduct and actions that embarrassed and brought the party to disrepute.
“The disciplinary committee undertook a thorough and impartial review of the allegations and the findings were carefully deliberated upon by the State Executive Committee.
“After a comprehensive assessment of the evidence and consideration of the committee’s recommendations, the State Executive Committee has taken the difficult yet necessary step of expelling the following members:

The expulsion came after Aregbesola launched a new political group, the APC Omoluabi Caucus, in Osun on August 22.
Aregbesola has been at odds with the current leadership of the APC in Osun since he was sacked as the state’s APC chairman in 2021.
He has accused the party’s leadership of being corrupt and of abandoning the party’s progressive ideals.
