Obiora Okonkwo, a frontline Anambra governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced his withdrawal from the party’s primary election taking place at the Women Development Centre in Awka.
Okonkwo in a statement said he was withdrawing from the race over some activities and patterns that are inconsistent with my principles and value.
His withdrawal from the poll follows that of Chukwuma Umeoji and Paul Chukwuma who had drop as the party’s aspirants ahead of the forth coming governorship election in Anambra State.
Okonkwo said, “After a careful evaluation and reflection on the current state of the All Progressives Congress primary election process in Anambra State, I have decided to withdraw my aspiration for the party’s governorship ticket.”
Also stating that the decision to withdraw from the race was a difficult one, the former aspirant said “this particular project is not worth risking his life.”
He added, “I will continue contributing to the socio-economic and political development of Anambra State and our country, Nigeria.
“I also continue to help in ways I can towards the realisation of President Bola Tinubu’s development programmes and the economic growth of our country, for the good of our countrymen and women,” he said.
Okonkwo’s withdrawal now leaves four aspirants – Nicholas Ukachukwu, Onunkwo Johnbisco Obinna, Valentine Ozigbo, and Edozie Madu – in the ongoing race for the governorship candidacy for the APC.
