Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has declared Monday a public holiday to commemorate the beginning of the new Islamic calendar, 1st Muharram 1446AH.
This announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Establishment, Auwal Manu-Dogondaji, in a statement released in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
According to the commissioner, although the 1st of Muharram falls on a Sunday, the government has decided to observe the public holiday on Monday, in recognition of the significance of the Islamic New Year.
“I extend the congratulations of the governor to the entire Muslim Ummah across the globe,” the commissioner said.
