APC group mounts pressure on Tinubu, Akpabio to back serving senator as party’s new chairman

A political advocacy group under the banner of the APC Youth Solidarity Network for Progressive Change has called on President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio to persuade Senator Mohammed Sani Musa to contest for the position of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Thursday signed by its national president, Gideon Oche, the group described Senator Musa as a “strategic thinker and generational bridge” whose leadership would be instrumental in repositioning the ruling party.

According to the group, the APC must prioritise internal cohesion and credible leadership if it is to retain political dominance in 2027 and beyond.

Oche said: “We are making this patriotic call with the deepest sense of urgency.

“Senator Sani Musa is not just a ranking senator; he is a party man with deep institutional memory, strong political values, and a clear understanding of how to navigate the future.

“He combines the idealism of the younger generation with the wisdom and restraint of elder statesmen.”

The group noted that while policy direction is important, the long-term stability of the APC will depend on the competence and foresight of its national leadership.

It argued that the choice of the next national chairman should be guided by merit, party-building experience, and a sound grasp of Nigeria’s political complexities.

“2027 is not as far away as it seems. The next National Chairman of the APC will either lead this party into a new era of strategic coherence or preside over its decline.

“We believe Senator Mohammed Sani Musa is the kind of figure who can inspire cohesion, renew confidence in the party, and restore credibility to the APC’s national secretariat,” the group noted.

Oche cited Musa’s performance in the Senate, particularly his work on finance, electoral reform, and technology, as evidence of his capacity to lead with “foresight and pragmatism”.

He warned that allowing political patronage or elite compromises to dictate the future of the APC would be a costly mistake.

“The APC must not wait to be forced into crisis. It must take proactive steps to install a leadership that can inspire trust both within and beyond its membership.

“Senator Musa represents that quiet strength, that intelligent discipline, that deliberate vision the APC needs at this time,” Oche said.

The group further stated that Musa’s acceptability across regions, accessibility to both young people and political elites, and commitment to public service place him in a unique position to steer the party forward.

“We cannot approach 2027 with business as usual. We need a party leader who understands the stakes—who is respected in both the North and South, who is accessible to young people and the political establishment alike. Senator Musa is that person,” Oche said.

The statement concluded by urging President Tinubu and Senate President Akpabio to “kindly but firmly” prevail on Senator Musa to step forward in service to the nation.

“Posterity beckons. Senator Musa must now be called upon to serve—not out of ambition, but out of duty,” the group said.
