A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Demola Olarewaju, on Friday accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of dancing to the tune of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
POLITICS NIGERIA had reported that INEC extended the deadline for political parties to conduct their primaries for the 2023 general elections by six days.
This comes hours after leaders of various political parties met with the leadership of the electoral umpire led by the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
At the meeting, the politicians under the auspices of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) appealed to INEC to adjust the timetable for the forthcoming polls. INEC listened. But for Olarewaju, the commission is biased.
“APC clearly knew ahead that INEC would extend the time for submission of candidates, which is why they’ve been foot-dragging.
“INEC is now clearly a political tool of the ruling party and the media should ask Mahmud Yakubu why he is changing the rules so early in the game already,” he wrote on his known Twitter handle.
