APC needs to ‘study the judgment’ regarding Kano crisis

In a statement yesterday, the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the APC said they would not send a representative to the parallel state congress in Kano that was conducted by the Ibrahim Shekarau-led faction of the party.

An ongoing battle for control of the party structure in Kano State’s APC chapter took on another crisis dimension last week when the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja voided the ward and state congresses held by the faction of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje that produced Abdullahi Abbas as chairman.

The national leadership of the ruling party said it expected the recent judgment of the Federal High Court declaring the Shekarau faction as the authentic APC to be studied.

However, the party’s national secretary, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, distanced the national leadership of the party from the Shekarau-led faction of the Kano State chapter in a statement.

He said, “We are responsible leaders of the party and we won’t like to comment on a judgment that we haven’t seen.

“All I can tell you now is that we are going to apply for a Certified True Copy of the judgment. We haven’t seen it. We need to study the judgment.”

On the other hand, Auwwal Ibrahim, who led the team that conducted the congress that produced Abdullahi Abass as state chairman, viewed the congress attended by Governor Ganduje as authentic.

His team of seven received a letter from Prof. Mustapha Mednaer, director of APC’s organization, inviting them to conduct a congress in Kano state.
