APC Presidential Primaries: “No way Tinubu will not win” – Babachir Lawal

Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), on Wednesday said he is surprised that more presidential hopefuls did not pull out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries race.

Lawal said he is so confident that Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the party, will emerge the presidential flagbearer on Wednesday.

Six presidential aspirants of the APC stepped down for Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State.

The aspirants announced this at the ongoing convention of the party at Eagle Square, Abuja.

They are Governors Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa); Senator Ibikunle Amosun; former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio; Senator Ajayi Borrofice; and Dimeji Bankole.

With the withdrawal of several aspirants and the absence of Chukuemeka Nwajiuba, 14 presidential hopefuls are in the race for the ticket of the ruling party.

“I was surprised by those who did not step down. It is an outcome we have been working on for years. Some of the other people that I expected ought to step down did not,” Lawal said.

As of the time of publishing this report, the party delegates from across the federation are still voting.
