The Edo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of printing illegal Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in order to rig the September 19 governorship election in the state.
Chris Nehikhare, the party’s Publicity Secretary, made the accusation known at a press conference on Sunday in Benin, the state capital. He also accused the APC of planning to incite violence in the state and cause the postponement of the election.
Nehikhare said the party has, however, reported the matter to the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Service (DSS) for further investigation.
He said, “We have alerted the Police and security agencies on this illegal act, but nothing has been done about it. Nobody has been arrested. We are using this medium to alert Nigerians and the entire world of what is happening in the state”
But in a swift reaction, the APC, through its State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris Azebamwen, denied the allegations made by the Edo PDP.
He said that the PDP leaders are trying to distract and deceive Edo people and other Nigerians about their plot to rig the upcoming election.
Azebamwen, however, urged Edo residents and other Nigerians to ignore the antics, propaganda, misinformation and disinformation of the PDP.
