APC stakeholders blame Tinubu’s minister for party’s 2023 defeat in Plateau state

The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has blamed Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, for the party’s defeat in the 2023 elections in Plateau State, accusing him of sidelining victims of herdsmen attacks and ignoring key advice from party stakeholders.

The Forum’s statement came in response to comments made by Yilwatda during a recent interview on Arise TV, where he dismissed the Forum as an unrecognized entity and questioned the loyalty of its chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga.

In a statement on Saturday, Zazzaga said the Forum’s initial statement was advisory and not an attack.

He faulted Yilwatda for misinterpreting constructive criticism regarding the displacement of hundreds of Plateau residents, insisting the minister has failed to visit or assist affected communities.

The Forum also accused Yilwatda, who was the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate in Plateau, of contributing directly to the party’s loss at both the governorship and presidential levels.

“One of the reasons APC lost both presidential and governorship election in Plateau was because he instructed his associates to vote for Labour Party in the presidential election,” the Forum alleged.

According to Zazzaga, while Yilwatda’s polling unit voted APC due to his candidacy, many of his supporters voted for Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

The Forum added that Yilwatda’s emergence as the APC gubernatorial candidate did not reflect the popular will of party members and claimed his nomination was imposed by certain state leaders.

Responding to the minister’s claim that he is not a known APC stakeholder, Zazzaga listed his roles in various APC campaign structures, including serving on Yilwatda’s campaign fundraising committee, and participating in national assignments like the Ondo and Anambra State elections.

“We have former senators, commissioners, professors, and traditional rulers in our membership. We are a recognized support group with a valid certificate since 2018,” Zazzaga emphasized.
