Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the forthcoming governorship election in the state “overwhelmingly” because of his administration’s achievements.
Governor Bello made the statement at the APC stakeholders meeting in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.
The governor said APC is a political party for all ethnic groups in the state, another reason it would win the election.
The News Agency of Nigeria quoted him as saying:
“The APC is a party for all ethnic groups in the state, which explains why it will win overwhelmingly in the Nov. 11 governorship election in the state.
“The victory won’t be on the basis of ethnic sentiment but on the strength of the APC and my administration’s achievements. We won 99 percent of elective positions in the state in the last general election.
“We must jettison ethnicity in Kogi. Those championing ethnic agenda do not mean well for our unity. In Kogi, we have every ethnic group in APC; let us not allow undeserving elements to drag us back.
“We won all senatorial seats; we won all the House of Representatives and state Assembly seats, except one; presently, all opposition parties have joined the APC in the state.”
Governor Bello further said with 1,500 political appointees, APC had “structure” in Kogi, adding that the forthcoming governorship election is like a boxing match between Mike Tyson and a malnourished boxer.
Bello’s former commissioner, Usman Ododo, is the APC flagbearer in the forthcoming electoral contest.
His main rivals are Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party and Admiral Jibrin Usman (retd) of the Accord Party.
