Aregbesola speaks on “resigning” over recent jailbreaks in Nigeria

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola on Wednesday said he will not resign despite the calls, following recurring jailbreaks across Nigeria this year.

The Minister who spoke to newsmen at the end of the weekly virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) which held at the State House, Abuja, declared that the calls in some quarters for his resignation was not necessary.

“As to whether it calls for my resignation, I still don’t see any need for that because it’s not for lack of preparedness that the attacks were successful,” Aregbesola said.

He added: “We are working with all arms of government particularly the security to make our custodial facilities impregnable. We will not rest until that is achieved. That’s the assurance I want to give Nigerians.”

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that President Muhammadu Buhari presided over the FEC meeting.

The virtual meeting, held at the conference room of the First Lady’s office and had in attendance among others the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha and Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.
