The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called for the compensation of victims of a military air strike on Silame Community in Sokoto State.
Ten people were said to have died in an alleged air strike by the military on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
The military has, however, denied that the victims were hit by the purported air strike. The forces top brass said the victims were killed in a secondary explosion that hit the communities.
In a statement issued on Monday, December 30, ACF National Publicity Secretary, Tukur Muhammad-Baba described the attack as “one mistake too many.”
He said the forum is troubled and saddened by the Silame incident as it believes that it was not an isolated incident considering the memories of similar attacks on Tudun Biri community, Kaduna State, about a year ago.
“The bland response of a spokesperson of the military insisting that the attack was on a planned target was most insensitive.
“We recall that the Defence Headquarters had initially attempted to wish away the Tudun Biri tragedy only to later admit it as a mistake, as indeed proved so by its own internal investigations. It is not clear if indeed those responsible for Tudun Biri had been punished as ought to have been,” Muhammad-Baba said.
He further called for compensation for all them victims on the incident while relevant authorities should launched investigations into the matter.
