Presidency sources have revealed that President Bola Tinubu is expected to implement a cabinet reshuffle at any moment.
Two independent sources told The Will that the president intends to rejig his cabinet, which he inaugurated in August because some appointees are “struggling in their portfolios and unprepared for the job”.
In November, President Tinubu warned cabinet members and other top appointees against underperformance during a Cabinet Retreat at the Conference Centre of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
“You will sign a bond with me; if you are performing, nothing to fear; if you miss the objective, if you don’t perform, you leave us,” Tinubu declared at the 3-day retreat.
It was gathered that the president could use the current corruption scandal linked to two ministers, Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, to implement the changes.
While President Tinubu, on Monday, suspended Edu from office, Tunji-Ojo has also been linked to a firm, New Planet Projects Ltd, which received N438 million as “consultancy fees” related to the National Social Register contract, part of the controversial N3 billion contracts awarded by Edu.
One of the sources said, “As many as five could be dropped.”
A new minister is, however, expected to be named for the Ministry of Labour and Employment following the resignation of Simon Bako Lalong, a former Plateau State Governor, who resigned to become the Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
