Former Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo, has said although Siminalayi Fubara is not his preferred candidate in the March 18 governorship election in Rivers State, he would never order his assassination.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Dokubo supported the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in both presidential election on February 25, and last Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Rivers State.
The APC candidate in Rivers is Tonye Cole.
“Like I said before the election, that I will not come and encourage tribe, killings, because all the candidates are Ijaw. I was President of Ijaw Youth Council. It would be beneath me to say they should kill Sim, they should do this, they should castigate him.
“Even if I didn’t support Sim, I did not go to that length. He called me, I spoke to him on the phone,” Dokubo said via a Facebook Live on Monday.
This newspaper reports that Fubara, the immediate past Rivers Accountant-General, won the 2023 Rivers State governorship election.
Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, the Returning Officer, announced the result on Tuesday at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) head office in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital.
According to Rim-Rukeh, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate secured 302,614 votes to win the election.
APC’s Cole, his closest challenger, polled 95,274 votes.
