Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad Ladies has announced the signing of Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, on a free transfer following her exit from Leicester City Women.
Plumptre (25 years) was one of the Nigerian female players who featured at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, playing all matches for the Falcons who got to the round of 16.
Reacting to the development, she tweeted on Tuesday, September 12: “Grateful to have signed for Al-Ittihad. Excited to start this journey alongside some incredible human beings. My journey of stepping into more of myself continues. It’s more than football”
She told Al-Ittihad’s media: “Football for me is about connecting not only with myself but with people around me, whether my teammates or staff.”
Meanwhile, Desire Ugochi Oparanozie, Nigeria’s Super Falcons forward, had announced her retirement from football at the age of 29.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that she made the announcement on her social media accounts on Wednesday.
“To my fans, family, and friends, thank you for the show of love and support over the years,” she wrote. “It’s time to take a bow, as I believe there’s no better time than now. I’m officially announcing my retirement from professional football for both club and country.”
