Atedo Peterside, the founder of Stanbic IBTC and Anap Foundation, has backed the restructuring of the country in line with the principle of true federalism.
Peterside’s comment a day after Governors and leaders of the South-South zone demanded the restructuring of the country. According to the governors and leaders of the region, the country is not at peace with itself and not working as it should.
Chairman of the South-South Governors Forum and Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, made this known on behalf of the governors and leaders during the regional stakeholders meeting with a presidential delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Ambassador Ibrahim Gambari.
According to Okowa, the people of the South-South region are not attended and have been neglected, hence their call for true federalism.
But in a tweet via his Twitter page on Wednesday, Peterside supported the call of the Southsouth leaders to restructure the country in order to deliver the dividend of democracy. He also condemned those opposing restructuring but admitting that existing structures are defective and cannot deliver anything except failure.
He wrote: “Most people who oppose Restructuring of Nigeria simultaneously admit that existing structures are defective and cannot deliver anything except failure. Are they not aware that the argument in favour of retaining a structure is tied to its capability for delivering success?”
