Former Vice President and key African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader, Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday endorsed Shehu Yohanna, former aide to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, as the Interim Chairman of the ADC in Adamawa State.
The endorsement was announced in a statement issued in Abuja by Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, titled “Atiku Backs Shehu Yohanna as Adamawa ADC Chairman, Charges Collaboration with Sadiq Dasin’s Transition Team.”
The development follows months of internal disputes and legal contests that had weakened the party’s cohesion in the state. Atiku urged stakeholders to rally behind Yohanna and operate under a unified organisational structure.
He also threw his support behind the Sadiq Dasin-led Transition Team, directing it to work closely with the Yohanna-led executive to “firmly plant the ADC in Adamawa.”
According to Atiku, the renewed call for collaboration comes after the resolution of all outstanding legal matters and the signing of peace agreements by major actors.
“I am particularly elated that the Adamawa ADC family is ending the year on a positive note with the settlement of all issues. No house divided against itself can stand,” he said.
He urged the state executive and the Transition Team to work together to make the ADC the preferred political platform in Adamawa, adding that the national leadership under Senator David Mark would enforce strict discipline and maintain “zero tolerance for indiscipline and insubordination.”
Yohanna’s elevation within the ADC follows his November resignation as Special Assistant to Governor Fintiri, a decision he described as part of a broader push to strengthen the ADC as a credible opposition force.
Announcing his resignation in Yola, Yohanna said, “My appointment was facilitated through the IPAC framework to foster national cohesion. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve, but I must now focus on building a robust and effective opposition that can offer a credible alternative for the people.”
His departure triggered a series of political realignments, culminating in Atiku’s latest endorsement aimed at consolidating and strengthening the ADC’s presence across Adamawa State.
