Former Vice President of Nigeria and the presidential flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Friday said his former boss, Olusegun Obasanjo, does not have a better presidential candidate to support for the 2023 election than him.
Atiku was speaking in an interview on Arise TV, monitored by POLITICS NIGERIA.
He said although he is yet to visit ‘Obj’ as Obasanjo is fondly called, he has maintained communication with the former Nigerian leader.
Obasanjo had said he is no more into partisan politics.
Asked if he needs Obasanjo’s support, Atiku replied: “Why will I not need his support? He was my former boss. Why will I not need his support? Of course I will need his support. I assume I have it.”
Atiku was Nigeria’s vice president between 1999 and 2007 when Obasanjo was the president.
Since his entry into politics in 1989, Atiku has unsuccessfully contested five times for the Office of President of Nigeria in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019.
