Automation ‘next stage of service delivery’, NCC says

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission or NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta stated that automated service delivery by public institutions should be the next priority for excellent service delivery to Nigerians.

Speaking on his behalf was NCC’s Director, Public Affairs, Dr Ikechuku Adinde, at the opening ceremony of the SERVICOM retreat, focusing on ‘Charter Performance Monitoring and Reporting’.

Dr Adinde said that the digital economy drive of the Federal Government should be followed by more services delivered online in an efficient way.

He also added that NCC and SERVICOM continue to work together. Previously, the two developed REMITA, an electronic payment platform for individuals and businesses. Since its release, it has brought a lot of “efficiency and transparency” in the payment process, involving Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the government.

NCC is currently one of the few MDAs with a toll-free number, specially designed should the customers have issues with telecommunications service providers.

“Therefore, from our perspective as a regulator of the digital ecosystem in Nigeria, we feel that automation of service should be the next stage of service delivery,” said Mr Adinde.

NCC also plans to hold a long-anticipated mock auction for Nigeria’s 5G plan, which is set to be deployed in major urban cities across the country by 2025, this month, involving qualified telecommunication companies.

In response, the National Coordinator/Chief Executive Officer of SERVICOM, Nnena Akajemili, urged NCC to collaborate with other MDAs, in hopes of enhancing synergies. Areas specifically mentioned by Akajemili include data management, CSR, Value Added Services (VAS), and shortcodes.
