The Plateau State Police Command has said one of the bandits killed in Mangu Local Government Area by the Operation Safe Haven Operatives on Wednesday was a dismissed Special Constabulary.
The deceased, Katzing Zwalnan Zingfa, was once a member of the Special Constabulary, a scheme employed by the then police administration between 2018 and 2019 to aid the Police in intelligence gathering and not in any way bear firearms.
In a statement signed by the Plateau State spokesman for the Police Command, ASP Alfred Alabo said Zingfa was among those killed by the Operation Safe Haven operatives on Wednesday, July 12th, along with two others, following an ambush they laid on STF operatives while responding to a distress call in the Mangu Council area.
He was reported to have absconded from duty for over a year now, and by his action of absconding from duty, his character was already in question; hence, he was defaulted several times by the police authorities before being declared a deserter based on the police act.
Confirming the identity, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, noted that the deceased was once a member of the Special Constabulary of the Nigeria Police Force but has been declared a deserter and has been dismissed from the force.
