Bandits abduct mobile police officer in Plateau state; soldier escapes

Bandits have abducted a mobile police (Mopol) officer in Kampani, a community in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, while a soldier accompanying him managed to escape.

The incident happened on Wednesday evening as the officer and the soldier were traveling from Zurak to Kampani.

According to sources, the two security personnel were ambushed by the bandits. While the mobile police officer was captured, the soldier successfully evaded the attackers.

The duo was part of a security team operating in the banditry-affected areas of Bangalala, Kampani, Zurak, and surrounding communities.

Sahapi Sambo, a youth leader in the area, confirmed the incident to The Nation, explaining that the two men were on their way to join their colleagues in Kampani when they were attacked.

Efforts are reportedly underway to rescue the abducted officer. On Thursday, security personnel, including soldiers, police, and local vigilantes, launched a manhunt for the bandits, tracking them to their hideout.
