Houston-based sociopolitical organisation, World Igbo Congress (WIC), has lamented the increasing bandits’ attacks in Nigeria.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the WIC claimed that bandits are determined to ‘plunge Nigeria into another civil war’.
The organisation was reacting to the “incessant” attacks on churches, Catholic members of the Clergy, and worshippers in Africa’s most populous nation.
News filtered in on Tuesday that suspected terrorists murdered Reverend Father John Cheitnum, who was kidnapped alongside his colleague, Donatus Cleopas, on their way to a function in the Lere Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State on Friday evening.
In the last one year, the Catholic Church of Kaduna Diocese alone has lost three of its priests to banditry, while four others were kidnapped and only regained their freedom after ransoms were paid to their abductors.
“The killings in Nigeria by armed Fulani bandits are increasing by the day. They have sworn to kill any clergy abducted and plunge the nation into tribal War soon. We are putting the world on notice that the deliberate killing of innocent Igbo Christians is wrong and uncalled,” WIC said via its official Twitter handle on Wednesday.
